1. The Gran Destino Tower

I am not sure what categorizes a resort as “moderate” vs “deluxe” for Disney but the Gran Destino Tower feels very much like a deluxe resort for me! The tower does not shy away from beauty, the moment you walk in you’re transported to a Spanish-Moroccan dream location. The rooms in the tower are very spacious and tastefully decorated, we truly enjoyed staying here.

2. The Casitas, Ranchos, and Cabanas

The other options when staying at this resort are the casitas, ranchos, and cabana areas. These smaller buildings are spread out around the central Lago Dorado (lake). We stayed at the casitas once and we did not care for them. The biggest issue we had was how FAR they are from the main hotel lobby area, as well as from the bars and restaurants. I remember saying I wouldn’t stay at this resort again because the bus stop to get to and from the parks felt like it was a mile away from our room, making it difficult to get around. The rooms themselves were okay, they definitely feel more like a value to moderate Disney category room vs. when you stay at the tower.

3. The Restaurants and Bars:

Three Bridges Bar & Grill

What I’ve had:

  • Warm Manchego Cheese and Oaxaca Cheese Dip ($14)
  • Braised Pork Tacos ($16)
  • Three Bridges Signature Burger ($19)
  • Steak Frites ($22.50)

This place is always a hit for us. It’s one of the few dining locations opened so late on any property so if you like eating late this place will not disappoint you! Plus, it’s on the water and offers gorgeous views of the Gran Destino Tower.

Dahlia Lounge

What I’ve had:

  • La Lavanda Gin Tonic ($16): Xoriguer Gin de Mahón, Q Tonic, Lime Juice, Soda Water

The best stop for a quick coffee break! It is located in the lower lobby of the Gran Destino Tower and as a plus the place is also gorgeous.

Barcelona Lounge

El Mercado de Coronado

  • Hours: 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM

This is the quick service location for the resort. It is inside “El Centro” where most of the other food options are also located. From the Mickey Waffles to the Chicken Tenders, everything is good here!

Maya Grill

  • Hours: Dinner – 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Have not tried this Mexican restaurant yet.

Siestas Cantina

  • Hours: 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM

This is the main pool bar, they have great frozen drinks for that summer heat!

Laguna Bar

  • Hours: 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM

Lakeside views and it’s a great spot to relax while you wait for your table at Three Bridges!

4. The “Dig Site”

This is the main recreational area. The pool, slide, hot tub, splash pad, playground, arcade, beach volleyball court, and ping pong tables are all located here. Infamous for it’s “mayan temple” pool that has been on the news for people trying to climb it (please don’t).

This is the main pool but there is also 3 leisure pools located near the casitas, ranchos, and cabana room areas.

The Lost City of Cibola Pool

5. The Activities

You can find anything from fishing to movies under the stars at this resort! We love how many different activities are available. There’s bike rentals, fishing rod rentals, smores, movies, fitness area, jogging trail, painting etc.

The campfires are held at the Dig Site Pool from 7:00-8:00 pm daily.

Our favorite activity offered at this resort is Sangria University! Head over to Three Bridges Bar & Grill where you’ll get to sample their 4 in-house sangrias as well as make your own glass of sangria from a selection of fresh fruits and base spirits provided! The class lasts about 90 minutes and is offered Saturdays and Sundays for $60. You need advanced reservations which you can make here: Sangria University at Disney’s Coronado Springs.

My final take:

This resort is fabulous but only when you stay at Gran Destino Tower in my opinion! The difference in room price is not that much and honestly for me, it made a HUGE difference. I’m glad we gave this resort another chance after our experience in the casitas. Other than the DVC resorts, this is the next best thing!

Overall Rating: 8/10 – My favorite non-DVC and “moderate” resort!
